Tango puzzle rules: how to play sun and moon
Tango has four rules and one control. Here they are with drawn examples, plus the two patterns that solve most of every board.
The goal
Fill the 6×6 grid with suns and moons so every row and column holds exactly three of each.
The rules
- Each row and column must contain three suns and three moons.
- No more than two of the same symbol can sit next to each other in a row or column.
- Cells joined by = must hold the same symbol.
- Cells joined by × must hold opposite symbols.
Controls
- Tap a cell to cycle it: empty, sun, moon, empty.
- Long-press a cell to clear it instantly.
- Undo reverses your last placement, as often as you like.
- Reset clears every cell you placed and starts the board over.
Two patterns that solve most boards
Because three alike can never touch, two neighbors with the same symbol force the opposite symbol on both sides of them. And when two equal symbols have one gap between them, the gap must hold the other symbol.
Questions and answers
Can a row have three suns side by side?
No. At most two identical symbols may touch in a row or column, even though each row holds three of each.
What do the = and × signs mean in Tango?
= means the two joined cells hold the same symbol; × means they hold opposite symbols.
