Tango puzzle tips and strategy
Every Tango board can be solved by logic. These techniques find the next forced move quickly, from easy boards to expert ones.
1. Start where the board is busy
Rows and columns that already hold several symbols are where the no-three rule bites first. Two suns side by side immediately decide the cells next to them.
2. Follow the markers
An = or × marker turns one known cell into two. When markers form a chain, a single symbol can travel across half the board with no guessing at all.
3. Look for pairs and sandwiches
A pair of identical symbols forces the opposite symbol on both ends; two identical symbols with a gap between them force the opposite symbol into the gap. Scan every row and column for these after each move.
4. Count what is left
Each line needs exactly three of each symbol. Once three suns are in, the rest of the line is moons. With two of one symbol placed and only a few empty cells left, check which arrangements avoid three in a row: often only one does.
5. Combine a marker with a count
A × marker in a row means that pair holds one sun and one moon, whatever their order. Subtract it from the count and the remaining cells often fall into place.
6. Test ideas with undo, not hints
Undo is free and unlimited, so it costs nothing to try a symbol and see whether the board breaks. Save Hint for the moment you are truly stuck; it fills one cell that the rules already force.
Questions and answers
Do I ever need to guess in Tango?
No. Every board has exactly one solution and can be solved by logic, so there is always a forced move somewhere.
What is the best first move in a Tango puzzle?
Look for two identical symbols side by side, or two with one cell between them. Both patterns force a symbol straight away.
